ROSEMOUNT, MINNESOTA – According to the Rosemount Police Department, a vehicle became stranded on the railroad tracks north of County Road 42 and Highway 3 on Tuesday evening, March 4, 2025, prompting an emergency response from the Rosemount Police Department and Rosemount Fire Department. The incident occurred around 7:00 p.m. when the driver mistakenly turned onto the tracks while attempting to travel north on Highway 3.
Fortunately, an approaching train was able to stop in time, preventing a potentially dangerous collision. However, rail company officials had to inspect the tracks thoroughly before regular train service could resume.
Due to the investigation and necessary safety checks, multiple railroad crossings in the area were temporarily blocked. Traffic was significantly impacted at County Road 46 near Chippendale Avenue, as well as, at the intersection of County Road 42 and Highway 3. Authorities worked diligently to clear the scene, and by approximately 9:00 p.m., the crossings were reopened, restoring normal traffic flow.
No injuries were reported in connection with the incident. Rosemount Police and emergency responders emphasize the importance of cautious driving, particularly amid severe winter weather conditions. The department urges motorists to limit travel to only what is necessary and remain vigilant when navigating unfamiliar roadways.
